Lea Michele tears up, One Direction wins big : Teen Choice Awards

The 2013 Teen Choice Awards rolled out in fairly predictable fashion: Surfboards were dispensed. One Direction scored four awards. Fans screamed. People twerked.

Lucy Hale, of “Pretty Little Liars” and Darren Criss, of “Glee,” hosted this year’s awards show. Hale won big, picking up a surfboard for “Choice Summer TV Star, Actress” for her role in “Pretty Little Liars.” “Glee” earned four and paid tribute to Corey Monteith, who died earlier this summer.
Lea Michele took the stage wearing a “Cory” necklace and teared up as she thanked Monteith during her acceptance speech for “Choice TV Actress Comedy.”

“For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we’re gonna get through this together. He was very special to me and also to the world.”

One Direction shared teen screams with new boy band Emblem3, of “X Factor” fame, which took home the surfboard for Choice Music Breakout Group.

Other winners included: “Pitch Perfect” (Rebel Wilson earned laughs with her surfer girl getup), Miley Cyrus (she thanked her “smilers” and twerked, of course) and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2.” (Yep, “Twilight” is still a thing.)
To close the show, the hosts and audience attempted to break the world record for most people twerking in one place. And, I think we can declare the twerking trend officially over.
